ACCA Exam Exemptions

What is an Exemption?

The students who already have some earlier qualifications relevant to those of the ACCA Qualification or Foundations in Accountancy awards, then they can get exemption from some of the exams in ACCA. The students can start their studies at the right level in accordance to knowledge and skill they already possess. The ACCA exam exemptions are voluntary.

The exemptions can also be claimed on the basis of practical experience if you wish to complete the Certified Accounting Technician (CAT) Qualification.

For each paper awarded, the individual needs to pay the exemption fee. Exemption fees are charged at the early exam entry fee.

There are many ways to become ACCA member. Some of the ACCA papers correspond to the qualifications which students learn prior to register for ACCA. ACCA ensures that the qualifications of students who claim exemptions must match the entry point knowledge and skills. Once the details are verified, ACCA provides the quickest possible route to students to get ACCA membership.

ACCA awards exemptions to various qualifications. Some of them are:

  • professional qualifications

  • postgraduate qualifications

  • Bachelor degrees

  • Foundation degrees

  • certificates and diplomas (awarded by recognized institutions)

Available Exemptions

An exemption from a maximum of nine papers of the Fundamentals level of the ACCA Qualification can be awarded. But there are no exemptions from the papers of the Professionals level of the ACCA Qualification. ACCA wants to maintain the standard and integrity of the ACCA Qualification by ensuring that all the candidates share a common experience by going through the Professional Suite of ACCA Qualification.

Exemption from all three levels of the Certified Accounting Technician (CAT) Qualification can be considered, depending on the standard and equivalence of the qualification held.

The Foundations in Accountancy suite of awards are also considered for exemptions.
