What is an EA course?

The Enrolled Agent course is for those aspirants who plan to become expert tax advisors in the US. The Enrolled Agent course has a three-part exam known as the Special Enrollment Examination (SEE), administered by Prometric on behalf of the IRS.

Each of the three EA exams has 100 multiple-choice questions and a 3.5-hour testing time which covers a wide range of taxation topics. After the tax preparers pass all three Enrolled Agent exams and complete other requirements, it is then the IRS distinguishes them with the EA designation and allows them to practice before the IRS.

To appear for the Enrolled Agent examination a candidate should have:

Enrolled Agent Course Duration:

  • Candidates must clear all the 3 parts of the EA exam within 2 years. However, due to the pandemic, the IRS has extended the carryover period of candidates with credit that had not expired as of February 29, 2020, by 1 year.
  • Candidates who have passed a part of the EA exam on or before February 29, 2020, have 3 years from the date they passed their first part to pass any remaining parts.
  • The Enrolled Agent exams can be given in any order. The examinations are held in India and are conducted throughout the year except for two months that is in March and April.
  • The 2021 test window has begun on 1st May 22 and will be offered continuously through February 28th, 2023.

Enrolled Agent Exam fees:

  • Obtain or Renew PTIN (Annual): $35.95
  • Scheduling Fee (Each Part): $203
  • Enrollment Fee to practice before the IRS (Non-refundable): $67
  • There is no rescheduling fee if candidates reschedule at least 30 days before the appointment date.
  • If candidates reschedule or cancel 5 to 29 days before the appointment, then there is a $35 fee.
  • Candidates will have to pay another full $203 fee if they schedule within 4 days of the appointment.
  • A lot of Indian multinational companies, specially IT and ITES and technology companies apart from start-ups, have offices and establishments in the US.
  • Apart from handling tax services for their clients, these companies also require tax professionals for managing their own tax filings.
  • Hence, opening a huge market for high quality employment in premium companies.
  • There are currently 7705 openings for Tax Professionals, 803 openings for Tax Advisors, 3224 openings for Tax Associates, 1758 openings for Tax Consultants, 7329 openings for Tax Seniors, and 1416 openings for Tax Specialists.
