CPA BEC Exam Format:

In the CPA BEC exam a candidates English is tested in the business context. There are three levels BEC Preliminary, BEC Vantage and BEC Higher in the exam format. The majority of the candidates believe that this section is easy to pass. Today the BEC pass rate is 48%. In this section quick thinking abilities are required about the business concepts. Students having expertise in the finance and economics score better in this section. CPA BEC exam format consist of three test lets that consists of twenty four MCQs which means total seventy two questions and requires 85% grades. The remaining is achieved from the written communication where there are three separate questions in the exam format. That is relevant to BEC topics. To pass this section, 75% or more are required.

CPA BEC exam set-up

BEC is among the four sections of the CPA examination and is conducted offline. Candidates are tested for the business concepts, business transactions, accounting implications and business environment. There are six topics covered in the CPA BEC exam format. The exam is scheduled for three hours, 72 questions and three communication based tasks that are written.

  1. Operation management 12-16 %

  2. Financial management (19-23 %)

  3. Corporate Governance (16–20%)

  4. Strategic Planning (10–14%)

  5. Economic Concepts & Analysis (16–20%)

  6. Information Systems and Communications (15–19%)

The percentage described is the estimation of questions that may be related to the topic in the exam format.

Tips on preparing for the BEC exam

It is recommended that the BEC examination should be tackled one by one. The BEC exam format in front of you will be a basket of diverse financial, economics and business concepts. Nothing relates to each other, and this creates difficulty for some of the candidates. Thus, it is best to handle them one by one to understand the exam format.


The questions in the economics exam format are straightforward. This is due to the fact that the exam only covers macro economics and elementary questions. The strategy that will help here is to go through a DVD or text books and focus on practicing. You just have to get used to the exam format to perform better in this exam format section.

Corporate governance

This is an important section and is related to others. Pay special attention on the audit committee and board of directors.

Information technology

It is a vast topic and no course can cover all the concepts. There is not much tricky part in this section as most of the section is based on the terminology and facts. Reading the material ones with extreme concentration will help you understanding the exam format.

Financial management

The trick here is to understand everything about how the calculations work. Memorize the basic formula to get through the BEC exam format.

Cost accounting

Work extra hard in this section so that you understand the exam format. It is difficult for many students. Do not underestimate this section as it might be easier for some but not for all.
