CPA Exam Schedule Procedure

This article deals with the procedure to follow to sit for a CPA exam on a particular date in the testing window. You are eligible to sit for the exam only once you are through with CPA application and NASBA has verified your eligibility and issued you the Notice To Schedule (NTS).

It is advisable to schedule your appointment (the exam date) at least 45 days before your desired exam date, if you want to schedule your exam with your preferences of location, date, time etc., Because the exam centres have limiting capacity and it is first come first serve. Depending on how many sections you have received your NTS for, it is advisable to choose dates soon because if for some reason you are not able to schedule the exam before the deadline expires, you will lose the exam and application fees paid to the NASBA or SBA (state board of accountancy) and have to apply again.

Test Centers:

You can take the exam at any of the authorized Prometric exam centers. International test centers were announced in 2011, as per which exams can also be taken in the following countries:

  • Japan
  • Brazil
  • Bahrain
  • Kuwait
  • Lebanon and
  • The United Arab Emirates.

Unfortunately not all Jurisdictions provide the facility to take the exam at international centers, the following jurisdictions don’t allow exam to be taken at international test centers:

  • Alabama
  • Maryland
  • California
  • Mississippi
  • CNMI
  • New Jersey
  • Delaware
  • North Carolina
  • Idaho
  • Virgin Islands
  • Kentucky

If you want to apply for international centers, you would have to pay an additional fees to NASBA after which you will be able to schedule for international test centers.

CPA Exam Schedule Procedure:

There are two ways to schedule your Exam. One is through Prometric website and the other is through its Candidate services calling center.

Option 1: CPA Exam Schedule through Prometric Website

This is the easiest and the friendliest approach to fix your exam date and location. You can schedule multiple sections at once or you can schedule each CPA Exam individually. Before you begin, keep your NTS ready with you, as you have to use different pieces of information in it for your scheduling.

Steps to CPA Exam schedule:

  1. Go to the Prometric website. Select SCHEDULE MY TEST.
  2. Select Country/State.
  3. Read all the information on the Information Review screen, and click NEXT.
  4. Read the policy information, click I AGREE, and click NEXT to proceed.
  5. On the Program Identifier Screen, enter your examination section identification number from your NTS (you have one identification number for each section of the examination—be sure to use the correct examination identification number for the section you are scheduling), as well as the first four letters of your last name, and click NEXT.
  6. Confirm proper section and click NEXT.
  7. Follow on-screen instructions to select the location, date and time you would like to schedule your section.
  8. Select COMPLETE REGISTRATION to complete your scheduling.
  9. It is advised that you print the confirmation number for your appointment and keep for your records.

Option 2: CPA Exam Schedule procedure by Call to Candidate Services Call Center (800-580-9648)

Prometric’s Candidate Services Call Center is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Eastern time. You must schedule a separately for each section of the examination that you are planning to take. If you call to schedule two or more sections, be prepared to identify the dates, times and locations you want to take each section. It is not necessary to schedule all the sections in one call. If you prefer, you may make schedule one section at a time.
