According to Wikipedia,
“ A blog is a discussion or informational site published on the World Wide Web and consisting of discrete entries ("posts") typically displayed in reverse chronological order”
Until 2009 blogs were usually the work of a single individual, but since then the concept of multi author blog (MAB) was developed. Blogs are known for their informal tone in the presentation of the information.
Technically blogging is not just marketing but of late, the wide prevalence of businesses utilizing blogs for marketing their businesses kind of made it a mainstream marketing activity and according to Technorati’s latest reports, that’s where much of the marketing juice is.
Blogs can be classified into several types based on the authorship (personal, corporate etc.,), by genre (political news, health and fitness etc.,) media type and so on.
Blogging has become one of the most popular modes of marketing and has become the first item on the checklist of every business that is going online.
How does Blogging help?
One of the most touted aspects to blogging is its ability in helping a business establish itself different from its competitors and as a leader in the industry, by continuously providing value to the customers through blogs. Try placing yourself in the customer’s shoes and understand what it is that you want.
Here are some tips on blogging and blog marketing:
1. Media use: When you blog, look for ways to make your blog posts stand out. One way to do this is by creating unique images such as infographics or videos that the customers will not find elsewhere. A picture tells a thousand words, and the customers respond to them quickly compared to reading a large post on your blog. Remember to optimize the infographics for SEO needs to help improve your website ranking.
2. SEO: make sure that you practice the best on-page and off-page guidelines for your blog to make it appear on the search engine results.
3. Social Media: Make sure that you supplement your blog with a page on social media so that you can connect directly with your audience whenever there is a new article in store. Also, make sure that you have social media plugins installed on your blog so that users can share the content they like. This ensures that you reach greater audience and generate greater traffic and help give positive signals to Search Engines.
4. Consistency: make sure that you update your blog consistently and regularly. 2-3 times a week is good. This gives an incentive to audience to keep coming back to find fresh content and consistency helps them do this at reguar intervals and always finding new content. If you fail to do this, then your blog traffic over the time goes down.
