Career options after BFM and BAF:
CA (Chartered Accountant)
We are sure that you had this in mind as every person pursuing BFM, BAF or even B.Com thinks that he can pursue CA, since he managed to tally the balance sheet in the finals. But trust me, it is not going to be that easy. Also, too many people are pursuing it so you will be one among many others.
CA exams are conducted by ICAI (Instistute of Chartered Accountants of India) and requires you to clear CPT, IPCC and Final CA. Since you are a graduate, you can directly appear for IPCC which has two groups. After clearing one of the groups, you will have to register for articleship under experienced CA’s for two and a half years. After clearing both the groups of IPCC and articleship, you can appear for Final CA, which again has two groups and after clearing them, you are a proud Chartered Accountant.
FRM (Financial Risk Manager)
Since you have completed your graduation in BFM/BAF, one of the best career options for you is FRM certification. FRM is globally recognized professional certification for banking and finance professionals.
FRM exams are conducted by Global Association of Risk Professionals (GARP, USA) and requires you to clear two exams, FRM Level 1 and FRM Level 2. It is conducted in the months of May and November. After clearing both the levels you need 2 years work experience in the related field after which you shall be granted with the Financial Risk Manager’s certificate. After completing your FRM, you have career opportunities in Risk Management, Trading, Structuring, Modeling etc.
CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst)
When it comes to global certifications, students are mainly confused, whether to go for CFA or FRM. Both the certifications have their own strengths, go through them and choose wisely.
CFA Program is a professional credential offered by CFA Institute to Investment and Financial professionals which requires you to clear 3 exams, CFA Level 1, CFA Level 2 and CFA Level 3. Along with passing all these 3 levels, you will require a work experience of 4 years to be known as a Chartered Financial Analyst. After completion of CFA, you can work as Research Analyst, Financial Advisor, Financial Strategists, Portfolio Manager, Private banker and many other career prospects are available.
MBA in Finance
MBA in Finance is again a very common option after graduation. MBA is a great option but only if you are pursuing it from a renowned institute. If you are doing it from an ordinary institute, you can only expect an ordinary job.
To get into a reputed institute for MBA, you need to crack entrance exam which can be any one of CAT, CET or MAT with a very good percentile. If your percentile is good enough, you can easily get into the top institutes and if not then you can give another try or settle for ordinary institutes. On completion of this two year program, you can easily get job in the financial service sector.
Very often students also have confusion between MBA in Finance and CFA, so we have carried a comparative analysis for that as well.
