How to narrow down your search on Twitter?

Use the combination of the fields given to refine your search.

Filter Tweets by Keywords

How to refine search on twitter using words

All of these words – Tweets having all words in any sequence (“Edupristine” and “Twitter”)

This exact phrase – Tweets having exact phrases (“Edupristine Twitter ”)

Any of these words – Tweets having any of these words (“Edupristine” or “Twitter”)

None of these words – Tweets excluding any specified words (“Edupristine” but not “Twitter”)

These hashtags – Tweets having specific hashtag (#Edupristine)

Written in – Select the language of your choice

Filter Tweets by Accounts/People

This option can be used to find tweets posted from a specific account, tweets sent to a specific account or tweets mentioning a specific account.

For e.g. If you want to know about a topic from a some news channels, you just have to mention the topic in “words” tab and name of the news channels in “from these accounts” tab.

How to refine search on twitter to specific people or accounts

From these accounts – Tweets from a specific account (Tweeted by “@edupristine”)

To these accounts – Tweets sent as replies to a specific account (in reply to “@edupristine”)

Mentioning these accounts – Tweets which mention a specific account name (Tweet includes “@edupristine”)

Filter Tweets by Location

This option can be very useful for businesses who want to reach out to potential customers in a specific area.

For e.g. If a business wants to reach out to people who are searching for a florist in a specific area, they can mention “Florist” in the “word” tab and choose the area in the location tab. Voila! The business will have it’s potential customers in front of them.

How to refine twitter search to specific locations

Near this place

Tweets sent from a geographic location (specifiy city, state, country)

Use the dropdown tab to select the geographic location.

Filter Tweets by Date

How to filter twitter search for tweets from specific dates

Tweets sent before a specific date, after a specific date or within a date range

Use the calendar dropdown to select a “from” date, “to” date or both

Search for Tweets from any date since the first Tweet posted.

By using the above fields you can narrow down your search as much as possible to obtain precise results for your search. This feature surely makes Twitter stand out from other Social networking sites.
