The United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE), also called board exam assesses whether student can apply for medical license in the US. The USMLE exam is conducted by the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME) and Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB).

Both 1st & 2nd tests are usually taken when the student is in medical college and step 3 is after graduation. USMLE Step 2 CK is a multiple choice computerized exam that should be taken after examinees have completed core clinical knowledge like Surgery, Medicine but before the graduation from their medical school. The Step 2 Clinical Knowledge (CK) exam is a nine hour timed exam having 355* multiple choice questions with minimum of 45 minutes of break time and not more than 45 questions in each of eight blocks. The minimum passing score in USMLE Step 2 CK exam is 209*.

To be eligible for USMLE Step 2 CK exam, a medical student must be officially enrolled in a medical school that is listed in World Directory of Medical School. A candidate should be enrolled in or graduate of medical school outside of United States and Canada and eligible for the USMLE exam by the ECFMG.
There is no specific date for the USMLE step 2 exam and within a three month eligibility period, medical students have the option of selecting a date. The test date for step 2 CK exam cannot be in the first 14 days of January or on major holidays.
